China-Built Faculty of Medicine Project Passes Acceptance Check in Peru

Construction of the Faculty of Medicine project at Peru’s National University of San Marcos (UNMSM) was recently completed and the facility passed an acceptance check.

The Faculty of Medicine project was undertaken by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC). It covers an area of 5,000 square meters and has a floor area of about 13,000 square meters.

With a frame-shear wall structure, the China-assisted project consisted of structural and architectural design, and the installation of air conditioners, electricity systems, ventilators, lighting and drinking facilities, and sterilization equipment.

The multi-functional project is equipped with laboratories, classrooms, a library, an infirmary and medical systems concerning oxygen and air ventilation. Additionally, it is composed of various functional departments such as a pediatric ward, delivery rooms, and home-level and community-level nursing rooms.

After its final completion, the project will fundamentally promote medicine-related disciplines, personnel training and medical research, and further ease the shortage of medical resources in Peru.

During the construction process, Chinese builders followed strict and precise construction standards, adopted new-type wall template assembly technology, adhered to rigid welding techniques applied in steel structural installation, and made full use of intelligent architectural construction technologies to ensure scientific layout of all professional pipe lines enhanced installation efficiency and product quality of involved machinery through reserving a pattern of holes.

Meanwhile, Chinese construction personnel came up with the construction plans of delivery rooms, family-level and community-level nursing rooms, and wards in advance. They also took into account local construction techniques and standards in the finalization of their construction plans, which guaranteed high-quality completion of all construction tasks as scheduled.

The Faculty of Medicine is the first Peruvian infrastructural project built with bank financing under the leadership of the Peruvian Higher Education Authority. Its completion will dramatically boost the confidence of foreign investors in the development of Peruvian higher education, advance the further growth of local medical education, and achieve integrated development between Chinese smart manufacturing technologies and the construction of concrete projects.

In the future, CCECC will continue to build relevant projects in Peru, further polish its brand, better tell corporate stories, and make new contributions to the implementation of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
