China Delivers Optical Remote Sensing Satellite to Egypt

A ceremony has been held to deliver the China-developed EgyptSat-A2 to the Egyptian Space Agency.

Jointly developed by the China Academy of Space Technology, a subsidiary of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, and the Egyptian Space Agency, the EgyptSat-A2 satellite project is a landmark high-tech cooperation in the field of space between the Chinese and Egyptian governments under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. Agreement on the project was signed in September 2019.

EgyptSat-A2 is a high-resolution optical remote sensing satellite for civil use. It was launched in December 2023 to serve in fields like land resource utilization, water conservancy, and agriculture.

The project has also played a crucial role in enhancing Egypt’s aerospace development capability and cultivating the talent pool for the country’s aerospace industry.

The ground system of the EgyptSat-A2 satellite project was built in the Egyptian Space City, which has technical capabilities such as satellite mission planning, satellite telemetry and telecommand, remote sensing data reception, standard-level image product generation, specialized agricultural product production, and data storage management.
