CMG Expands Its Sea–Land Intermodal Transport Network
During the 14th Five-Year Plan, China Merchants Group (CMG) has focused on developing comprehensive transportation services, accelerating the development of a “sea-land intermodal” network and enhancing China’s transportation capabilities.
Liaoning Port Group, a CMG subsidiary, has expanded its container hub by launching 54 new container shipping routes, totaling 180 routes that connect over 160 countries and regions.
In the shipping sector, CMG has promoted green and low-carbon transformation. The Gang Rong vessel, the world’s first methanol dual-fuel roll-on/roll-off vessel, has reduced carbon emissions by over 70 percent while doubling its carrying capacity, marking a key achievement in CMG’s green transformation of its automobile-shipping business.
In the highway sector, CMG has strengthened its presence in key regions including Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Yangtze Economic Belt. China Merchants Expressway Network & Technology Holdings Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CMG, now operates projects in 16 provincial-level regions, managing or investing in over 13,900 km of roads.
In technological innovation, China Merchants Communications Technology (Chongqing) Limited has introduced the intelligent cable-stayed bridge repair robot, which features real-time data transmission and an innovative “ground-based control and cloud-based operation” model, providing integrated solutions for bridge inspection and maintenance.
In integrated logistics, CMG’s subsidiary Sinotrans Limited enhanced supply chain resilience and security. Its overseas service network now spans 45 countries and regions. Air-freight capacity and China-Europe freight train operations continued to rise, while autonomous electric container trucks have achieved over 3 million kilometers of commercial operation.
