Three Gorges Hydropower Station Generates 1.8 Trillion kWh of Electricity

By August 31, the Three Gorges Hydropower Station had generated 1.8 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity, saving around 540 million tons of standard coal and reducing 1.48 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions, according to China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG).

The continuous supply of clean energy has been transmitted to Central China, East China, and Guangdong, providing solid support for national economic and social development as well as meeting people’s electricity needs.

With a total installed capacity of 22.5 million kilowatts, the Three Gorges Hydropower Station serves as a backbone power source for China’s “West-to-East Power Transmission”, and as a vital clean energy production base. Since the commissioning of its first generating unit in 2003, the station has maintained long-term safe and stable operation.

As the operator of this major national project, China Yangtze Power Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CTG, has optimized reservoir dispatching to better utilize water resources. It has also enhanced intelligent monitoring, equipment diagnostics and high-quality maintenance, significantly improving reliability and bolstering the country’s energy security.
