Nationwide Summer Wheat Harvest Progress Hits 68.54%, Harvest Work Proceeds in Orderly Manner Across Core Producing Regions
According to People’s Network, as of 17:00 on June 9, China’s summer wheat harvest has reached a phased milestone. Official agricultural dispatching data shows that 233 million mu of wheat has been harvested nationwide, accounting for 68.54% of the country’s total wheat planting area.
Agricultural machinery teams across the country completed harvesting on 13.37 million mu of wheat in a single day, with 183,800 combine harvesters put into operation. Official figures for the same period last year serve as a comparison: 15.72 million mu were harvested per day with 200,500 harvesters in service. This year-on-year shift stems from optimised machinery deployment plans formulated by local authorities in light of wheat ripening cycles and regional climatic conditions.
The core Huang-Huai-Hai grain belt supplies over 70% of China’s total winter wheat output, with harvesting progress varying across different areas. Anhui Province has fully wrapped up its wheat harvest, while harvesting work in neighbouring Henan Province is nearly finished. Over 80% of the harvest is complete in Jiangsu, more than 45% in Shandong, above 30% in Shaanxi, nearly 20% in Hebei, and over 15% in Shanxi.

Agricultural authorities keep advancing cross-regional co-ordination of farm machinery to ease operational pressures caused by uneven wheat ripening schedules across central and northern production areas. Agricultural departments of multiple provinces have set up mobile farm machinery service fleets specially for scattered small plots, addressing logistical difficulties in deploying large harvesting equipment. Standardised grain loss reduction rules for mechanical harvesting are enforced in all working zones to cut grain waste during reaping and comply with national quality benchmarks for agricultural machinery harvesting set by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
Over the coming days, meteorological monitoring platforms will send real-time weather alerts to all regions still carrying out harvest operations. Local agricultural administrations will adjust daily machinery schedules based on short-term rainfall forecasts, seizing dry weather windows to rush ripe wheat harvests and avoid grain losses brought by unfavourable weather. Grain storage and purchasing stations in all major producing provinces are fully operational and ready to accept newly harvested wheat upon delivery from fields. Sufficient warehouse capacity has been reserved in advance to guarantee smooth summer grain collection and storage this year.
