Changde, Hunan Conducts Survey on Smart Agriculture Application to Boost Agricultural Modernization

On April 13, Ma Jun, Vice Mayor of Changde City, Hunan Province, led a team to Jinfengqiao Village, Fengshu Township, Taoyuan County, to conduct an on-site survey on the application of smart agriculture in the construction of agriculture-related projects, according to Hunan Daily. Wang Bin, Member of the Standing Committee of the County Party Committee, Deputy County Mayor and Secretary of the Party Committee of Fengshu Weihui Township, Yu Qibin, candidate for Deputy County Mayor, and Huang Xianli, Director of the County Agriculture and Rural Bureau, accompanied the survey.

The research team went deep into the smart rice production pilot demonstration site, inspected the progress of project construction and application on the spot, and successively listened to the exchange speeches by the main person in charge of Taoyuan County Agriculture and Rural Bureau, the Deputy General Manager of Smart Agriculture Co., Ltd. and representatives of large grain growers. Taoyuan County, a major agricultural county with 1.1743 million mu of cultivated land, has been promoting the construction of a 10,000-mu high-efficiency water-saving irrigation smart agriculture demonstration area in Jinfengqiao Village since 2024, according to Guangming Net.

At the demonstration site, IoT devices such as soil moisture meters, insect condition lamps and soil water level gauges continuously transmit data, enabling farmers to monitor farmland planting conditions and remotely control irrigation and drainage through the “Zhonglian Zhinong Cloud” APP, said Liu Yang, Director of the Project Center of Taoyuan County Agriculture and Rural Bureau. This smart system can save 20% to 50% of water and 50% to 80% of labor compared with traditional extensive irrigation.

Zhang Junhui, relevant person in charge of Zoomlion Smart Agriculture Co., Ltd., introduced that the smart farm management platform can provide precise fertilization services based on soil health fertilization algorithms, realizing variable fertilization at the square-meter level during the topdressing stage. At present, the farmland area using this system has accumulated more than 3.16 million mu, serving 894 smart farms.

Ma Jun put forward three requirements for the next work. First, strengthen precise positioning, do a good job in top-level design, and further streamline, integrate and upgrade service projects. Second, strengthen overall operation and take information flow, material flow and capital flow into consideration as a whole. Third, strengthen achievement transformation, adhere to the market orientation, take farmers as the main body and take benefits as the standard, and promote the detailed and solid implementation of smart agriculture achievements.

Luo Ailai, a large grain grower in the demonstration area, showed the APP operation to the research team: “I can operate directly on my mobile phone and set the water level to automatically turn on and off, which is very convenient.” Chen Gaohua, Deputy Director of Taoyuan County Agriculture and Rural Bureau, noted that the smart farmland has reduced the cost of early rice by nearly 200 yuan per mu and improved the harvest, greatly boosting farmers’ enthusiasm for grain planting.

Taking this survey as an opportunity, Taoyuan County Agriculture and Rural Bureau will earnestly implement the work requirements of the municipal government, accelerate the promotion and application of smart agriculture technologies, and continuously improve the development level of characteristic industries. The promotion of smart agriculture not only injects new vitality into local agricultural development but also lays a solid foundation for advancing agricultural modernization in Changde.
