Jiangsu Holds Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Work Conference to Promote High-Quality Development

On April 13th, the Jiangsu Provincial Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Work Conference was held in Suqian City. The conference comprehensively summarized the development achievements of the province’s animal husbandry during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, systematically planned the development ideas for the "15th Five-Year Plan", clarified the key tasks for 2026, and focused on stable production and supply as well as green development to promote the high-quality development of animal husbandry.

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the development of animal husbandry in Jiangsu Province has steadily improved. According to Jiangsu Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the total output of meat, eggs and milk has maintained a steady growth, with the total output in 2025 increasing by 13% compared with 2020. The large-scale breeding rate of livestock and poultry exceeded 85%, and the mechanization rate reached 75%, with the construction of smart pastures leading the country.

Major animal epidemics have been stably controlled, the animal husbandry industrial chain has been continuously extended and expanded, the leading role of leading enterprises has been strengthened, and the feed industry has developed steadily. Animal husbandry science and technology has made new breakthroughs, with 8 new varieties (matching lines) such as Huashan chicken bred, and the number of newly cultivated varieties ranks among the top in China.

The conference pointed out that the "15th Five-Year Plan" period is a key stage for the quality and efficiency improvement of modern animal husbandry. Guided by new quality productive forces, the province will continue to promote technology-driven, green, quality-oriented and brand-driven animal husbandry around stabilizing supply, optimizing structure, improving quality and efficiency, and ensuring safety.

It will stabilize the production capacity of meat, eggs and milk, improve the level of large-scale and intelligent development, and resolutely keep the bottom line of major animal epidemic prevention and control and animal product quality and safety. As the first year of the "15th Five-Year Plan", 2026 is crucial for laying a solid foundation for the high-quality development of animal husbandry.

The conference required the provincial animal husbandry and veterinary system to continuously forge a fine work style, fully promote the quality and efficiency improvement of animal husbandry, and provide solid support for the comprehensive rural revitalization and the construction of a strong agricultural province. Seven key tasks were clarified at the conference.

According to People’s Network Jiangsu Channel, these tasks include strengthening the comprehensive regulation of live pig production capacity, optimizing the poultry industry structure, increasing support for the dairy industry; promoting the resource utilization of livestock and poultry manure to accelerate green and low-carbon transformation; deepening the application of artificial intelligence and smart breeding; and implementing mandatory immunization for major animal epidemics.

Other tasks involve regulating animal health supervision to improve the service efficiency of "Sumu Station", carrying out special rectification of cattle slaughtering and egg quality and safety inspections, and fully implementing production safety responsibilities to prevent and resolve various risks and hidden dangers. These measures will effectively promote the high-quality development of Jiangsu’s animal husbandry.
