Jinan’s Springs Maintain Record Long-Term Vigorous Flow
Jinan, renowned as the “City of Springs”, is witnessing an extraordinary prolonged display of its famous spring scenery, with numerous natural springs gushing robustly across the city.
Since 7 September 2025, the underground water level of Baotu Spring, the most celebrated spring in Jinan, has stayed above 29 metres every day, setting the longest continuous record since the spring resumed flowing in 2003.
Jinan is home to over 1,200 natural springs. When the water level of Baotu Spring remains steadily above 29 metres, all of the city’s 72 famous springs flow simultaneously, creating a spectacular landscape known as “thousands of springs competing to gush”.

This sustained high-water level has also given rise to the rare “Crescent Waterfall” scene at Wulongtan Park. The phenomenon, which only occurs when the regional water table is sufficiently high, has persisted for months, delighting visitors with its cascading waters.
The continuous vigorous flow of the springs reflects the effectiveness of long-term water resource management and ecological conservation measures in the region. These efforts support the stability of the local hydrological environment and maintain the unique natural heritage of Jinan.
The city will continue its sustainable water management practices to preserve the spring ecosystem and ensure that the iconic “City of Springs” retains its natural charm for future generations.
