China’s Second Home-Made Large Cruise Ship "Aida Huacheng" Sets Sail for Sea Trials
In the early morning of May 16, the second home-made large cruise ship "Aida Huacheng", built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, cast off moorings from Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Wharf and embarked on a 12-day sea trial. This marks the final key node before the ship’s official delivery.
An engineering and technical team of 937 people from 12 countries is participating in this sea trial. They will focus on 149 experimental verifications covering navigation capability and maneuverability, power and propulsion systems, safety and emergency systems, power and navigation systems, and full-ship vibration and noise. The trials involve 45 commissioning procedures, while simultaneously verifying key indicators such as vibration and noise, navigation speed, and the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI).

Since its successful undocking on March 20, "Aida Huacheng" has fully entered the terminal commissioning phase, successively completing the dynamic test of two main propellers and the issuance of 6,621 background completion certificates for the entire ship. Up to now, the total project progress of "Aida Huacheng" has reached 97.8%, with interior decoration completing 92.3% and commissioning finishing 89.8%.
As a key achievement in China’s large cruise ship independent research and development and manufacturing, "Aida Huacheng" embodies the continuous improvement of the country’s shipbuilding industry’s independent innovation capability and industrial chain completeness. Its sea trial is crucial to ensuring the ship’s safety, reliability and compliance with international standards.
The ship is scheduled for official delivery on November 6, when it will kick off its maiden voyage season from Guangzhou Nansha International Cruise Home Port. The delivery and maiden voyage of "Aida Huacheng" will further enrich China’s cruise market supply, promote the high-quality development of the domestic cruise industry, and drive the upgrading of related industrial chains.
