Main Construction of Xi’an Yanta West Road Water Pipeline Reconstruction Project Completed

Recently, the main construction of the DN1800 water supply pipeline reconstruction project on Yanta West Road (Chang’an Road - Zhuque Street) in Xi’an has been successfully completed. The project has pioneered the use of trenchless rehabilitation technology for large-diameter ductile iron pipes in China, successfully solving technical difficulties in updating the main water supply pipelines in old urban areas and safeguarding the safety of residents’ water use.

People’s Daily reports that Yanta West Road is located in Xi’an’s core transportation and commercial area, where the original underground concrete pipelines have been in service beyond their design life. Such aged pipelines are prone to problems such as settlement and interface misalignment, which not only affect water supply stability but also cause water waste, a key issue China aims to address in urban water supply network renovation.

To ensure the safety of residents’ water use, Xinxing Jihua Group adopted independently developed ultra-large-diameter and long-distance internal insertion rehabilitation technology, realizing one-time jacking and rehabilitation of 304 meters of pipelines. This technology effectively tackles complex problems such as settlement and interface misalignment of old pipe networks, filling the gap in relevant domestic technologies.

China Government Network notes that accelerating the renovation of urban water supply pipe networks is a key task to improve water supply efficiency and reduce water waste, especially in northern cities facing water scarcity. The successful application of this technology in Xi’an sets a valuable example for the renovation of old urban pipe networks across the country.

The project uses jackable ductile iron pipes independently developed by Xinxing Jihua Group. These pipes feature high precision and strong adaptability, with a special inner coating that offers wear resistance, corrosion resistance and drag reduction. Equipped with customized jacking equipment, each section of the pipe can be jacked in only 90 minutes.

The trenchless construction method is efficient and does not occupy ground space, avoiding disruptions to traffic and commercial activities in the core urban area. Xinxing Jihua Group promoted the project through an integrated "design + manufacturing + construction + service" model, covering on-site survey, precise mapping by CCTV robots, customized schemes, intelligent production, professional construction and pressure test acceptance. This full-process control ensures the accuracy of large-diameter pipe insertion and the overall quality of the project.

Currently, the main construction of the project has been completed, and follow-up acceptance and commissioning work is in progress. Once put into full operation, it will significantly improve the operation capacity of the water supply network in the area, ensuring stable and safe water supply for residents and businesses. Moving forward, the technology applied in this project is expected to be promoted to more old urban areas, helping optimize urban water supply infrastructure and promote high-quality urban development.
