China XD Successfully Develops 80kA Generator Circuit Breaker, Realizing Independent Controllability

Recently, China XD, affiliated to China Electrical Equipment Group, has successfully developed an 80kA generator circuit breaker (GCB). This achievement marks the realization of independent controllability in the field of generator circuit breakers in China, filling a domestic gap and completing the localization of key equipment for generator units with a single unit capacity of 50-200 megawatts.

For a long time, domestic medium and small-sized power generation units, including hydropower, thermal power, solid waste energy power generation and gas turbine power generation, have been heavily dependent on imported generator circuit breakers, a "bottleneck" problem that has restricted the independent development of China’s power equipment industry. The successful development of the 80kA GCB has fundamentally solved this problem, laying a solid foundation for the independent and safe operation of China’s power system.

Adhering to the integration of industry, university, research and application during the R&D process, the R&D team of China XD has overcome key technical difficulties such as arc extinguishing principle optimization and multi-physical field simulation. The product boasts a mechanical life of more than 10,000 times, with the characteristics of strong current-carrying capacity, compact structure and advanced arc extinguishing technology, ensuring long-term operational reliability and stability to meet broader market demand.

Science and Technology Daily reports that China has been continuously strengthening technological innovation in the power equipment field in recent years, with remarkable breakthroughs in key core technologies. Similar to the 80kA GCB, a series of localized power equipment has been successfully developed, promoting the transformation of China’s power industry from dependence on imports to independent innovation.
