China’s “AI Smart Eye System” Launched, Equipping Energy Storage Batteries with “Intelligent Brain”
How to make energy storage batteries safer, longer-lasting and easier to maintain? It has been learned from the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) that the team led by Academician Chen Zhongwei from the State Key Laboratory of Catalysis for Energy Conversion at DICP, in conjunction with relevant enterprises, has developed the “AI Smart Eye System”, equipping energy storage batteries with an “intelligent brain”. The relevant achievements have been officially released and put into industrial application, according to CNR.cn.
It is reported that the system is mainly oriented to the energy storage needs of intelligent computing centers, and has built a full-process management system covering manufacturing, operation and maintenance around the safe and efficient operation of battery systems. Innovatively integrating the intrinsic mechanism model of batteries with deep learning algorithms, it constructs an all-dimensional intelligent protection system covering “cell-module-system”, enabling energy storage assets to “think and evolve”, according to Xinhua News Agency.

As the core carrier of the “AI Smart Eye Agent”, the system establishes an exclusive health file for each cell during the manufacturing process, realizing full-life-cycle traceability from “production” to “retirement”. In the operation phase, the system can predict battery faults more than 24 hours in advance with an accuracy rate of over 95%.
Meanwhile, through intelligent balance management, it controls the monomer voltage difference of the battery pack within 5 millivolts, effectively improving the safety and stability of the energy storage system and extending its overall service life by more than 15%. This technological breakthrough addresses key pain points in the energy storage industry, such as high operational risks and cumbersome maintenance.
In addition, the system is equipped with an exclusive “AI operation and maintenance expert”. Through natural language dialogue, operation and maintenance personnel can quickly obtain fault diagnosis, cause analysis and maintenance suggestions accurate to individual cells within 10 seconds, reducing the fault排查 time from hours to minutes and improving maintenance efficiency by nearly 80%.
This not only cuts labor costs significantly but also reduces downtime losses, providing strong support for the efficient operation of energy storage projects. The system’s user-friendly design and high efficiency have been widely recognized by industry insiders since its release.
The “AI Smart Eye System” was jointly released by Academician Chen Zhongwei’s team from DICP, Shuangdeng Group Co., Ltd. and CGN New Energy Holdings Co., Ltd. at the recently held 14th Energy Storage International Summit and Exhibition. Currently, it has been put into industrial application in the Hubei project of CGN New Energy Holdings Co., Ltd., marking a solid step forward in the integration of artificial intelligence and energy storage technology in China.
The R&D team stated that they will further promote the in-depth integration of artificial intelligence and energy storage technology, empowering the Tianshu Zhiheng Battery Management System with the core algorithms of the “AI Smart Eye System” to drive the digital and intelligent development of energy storage management with higher-level computing power and algorithms. Its industrial application has laid a solid foundation for the high-quality development of China’s energy storage industry.
