China's 1000kV UHV Dry-type Bushing Put into Promotional Application, Filling the Gap in Domestic Core Components

Recently, China's 1000kV UHV transformer dry-type bushing, which boasts internationally leading levels, has been officially put into promotional application after stable operation in engineering demonstrations. It has also been successfully included in the Recommended Catalog of Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievements of Central Enterprises by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), marking an important breakthrough in China's localization of core UHV components.

Led by China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI), this achievement was jointly developed by Shenyang Hexin Bushing Co., Ltd., State Grid Fujian Electric Power Co., Ltd., State Grid Sichuan Electric Power Co., Ltd. and other units through the "industry-research-application" integrated model. They successfully tackled a series of technical problems, effectively filling the gap in the localization of core UHV components and providing key support for the safe and stable operation of China's UHV AC projects.

As a core node of the UHV power grid, the safe and stable operation of substations is directly related to the overall efficiency of the power grid. As a key component of 1000kV UHV transformers, UHV bushings serve as the core channel for bearing voltage and conducting current, and their performance and reliability play a decisive role in UHV projects. Previously, China's UHV bushings relied heavily on imports, which not only had the problems of high prices and long delivery cycles, but also occasional operational failures of imported products caused serious losses. It has become an urgent need for the industry to independently master core technologies and develop high-reliability domestic UHV bushings.

In response to this industry demand, CEPRI innovatively proposed a dry-type bushing technical route with advantages such as explosion-proof, high-altitude adaptability and strong earthquake resistance. 

Relying on national major projects and after five years of intensive research, it successfully broke through a series of key technologies and fully mastered the core capabilities of design, manufacturing and testing of 1000kV dry-type resin-impregnated paper bushings covering an altitude of 0-4000 meters. 

The bushing has successfully verified the insulation performance at 4000 meters above sea level and the seismic performance at 9-degree fortification intensity, and is even the world's first UHV transformer bushing developed for high-altitude areas.

After professional testing, the comprehensive performance of this dry-type bushing has reached the international leading level and has been effectively applied in practical projects. Among them, 3 units are applied in Changtai Station of Fuzhou-Xiamen UHV AC Project, and 7 units are applied in Ganzi Station, a high-altitude station of Sichuan-Chongqing UHV AC Project. 

It effectively adapts to the complex environment of high-altitude and high seismic intensity areas in southwest China, becomes a key equipment to solve the problem of new energy transmission in this region, and provides reliable technical guarantee for the construction and operation of UHV projects under complex geological conditions.
