China Datang records 23.65 per cent rise in large and medium infrastructure investment for first three quarters
According to China Datang Corporation Limited, published on 2 November, the group has expanded investment and pushed forward green energy transformation while managing safety, quality and returns this year. Its investment in large and medium capital construction projects rose by 23.65 per cent in the first nine months, marking the highest level for the corresponding period in recent years.
A string of milestones have been reached on major technical equipment schemes. At the Zhala Hydropower Station in the Yuqu River valley, the rotor for the world’s first 500-megawatt high-head impulse turbine unit has been lifted into place. The unit has entered the final assembly phase, paving the way for grid connection.

Work on clean and efficient coal-fired power facilities has also progressed. Unit 5 of the second-phase expansion at the Lvsi Port plant in Jiangsu, a scheme with two 1,000-megawatt generators, has completed its 168-hour full-load trial run and entered commercial operation. Unit 6 has finished aerodynamic field testing, with ignition and steam blowing among the next scheduled steps.
At the second-phase project of Datang Yan’an Power Generation Company, which also includes two 1,000-megawatt units, the first concrete pour for the main powerhouse and lifting of the first steel frame for boilers three and four have been completed. Construction teams will press ahead with works on turbine hall frames and the outer chimney shell to meet annual targets.
Renewable energy sites are advancing on parallel timelines. At the 1,000-megawatt Fuyu onshore wind farm, 74 per cent of turbine foundation excavation, 82 per cent of pile driving and 59 per cent of foundation concreting have been finished. Eleven hybrid turbine towers have been erected, while fitting works and civil construction for auxiliary buildings continue. At the 1,200-megawatt offshore wind scheme near Danzhou, crews are lifting and commissioning turbines across the second site.
Thirty-nine turbines and fifty foundation piles are in place, and the offshore substation is undergoing pre-connection testing ahead of the first batch of turbines being linked to the grid.
The group will maintain progress against its annual targets, raise the performance of priority projects and keep refining its energy mix, deploying effective investment to support low-carbon growth.
