Three Gorges Reservoir completes its 2026 impoundment target

According to China Three Gorges Corporation, released on 30 October, the Three Gorges Reservoir has risen to the 175-metre water level. This marks the fifteenth time the reservoir has reached its full storage mark since it first hit the level in 2010, bringing the impoundment work for the world’s largest clean energy corridor in 2026 to completion.

During the impoundment period, the corporation tracked rainfall and river conditions across the basin closely. Against a backdrop of lower inflows in the upper Yangtze River, it balanced power supply security and annual impoundment requirements through forecasting, precise scheduling, refined operation and maintenance of the facility.

All dams, power stations, navigation structures and supporting equipment remain in stable working order. The usable water volume within the clean energy corridor stands at 40.71 billion cubic metres. The stored water will support electricity supply for receiving regions through the coming winter and next spring, alongside water supply, shipping and ecological demands for the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
