Shandong Energy builds smart hub for multi-gigawatt wind, solar and storage assets

According to Shandong Provincial State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, 28 October 2026, Shandong Energy New Energy Group has completed a regional hub in Dongying, the first domestic facility combining a data centre, central control centre, smart operation centre, regional management centre, research and development centre and talent training base. The platform delivers centralised monitoring and integrated operation services for new energy projects totalling more than ten gigawatts.

The smart operation centre hosts a closed-loop management framework covering safety oversight, full-lifecycle asset management and power trading. A four-stream governance model for safety, equipment, trading and maintenance runs across the whole operation chain. Intelligent monitoring terminals form a tiered early warning and response network, while digital twin replicas of all on-site equipment support round-the-clock condition tracking, shifting maintenance workflows from reactive repair to predictive intervention. The system connects directly to the provincial power trading platform to match green power supply with market demand.

The group has developed a five-dimensional intelligent maintenance system drawing on space, aerial, ground, marine and underwater resources. Satellite and Beidou remote sensing systems collect meteorological data across land and sea zones. Automated inspection drones carry out scheduled patrols to identify blade damage and photovoltaic hotspots. Ground robots handle routine high-risk inspection work, and specialist underwater units examine and clean subsea pipelines and foundation structures.

Multi-source datasets from meteorological satellites, wind and light measurement stations and historical generation records feed proprietary forecasting algorithms, delivering high-precision wind and solar output projections across short and medium time horizons. Shared storage assets are coordinated with generation output; storage units absorb surplus power during peak production and discharge electricity when output falls, smoothing variability and improving grid absorption capacity.

A standardised training base sits alongside the operational platform. It is equipped with digital training hardware and site simulation systems, delivering integrated courses covering onshore and offshore wind power, photovoltaic generation, energy storage and central dispatching. The curriculum blends theoretical tuition, virtual simulation and practical engineering tasks to train multi-skilled operational engineers.

Shandong Energy New Energy Group will continue to advance digital and artificial intelligence applications for low-carbon energy, using digital operations as a core competitive strength for green transition.
