China Electronics Technology Group advances optoelectronic component manufacturing
According to China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, published on 13 October 2026, the group undertakes research and manufacturing of optical chips, special fibre cables and optical equipment at its facilities in Shijiazhuang, Hefei and Shangrao.
At the chip workshop of the CETC Industrial Fundamental Research Institute in Shijiazhuang, production procedures including photolithography, sputtering and ion implantation transform wafers into high-speed optical chips. Optical chips convert electrical signals into optical signals and form core components at the starting point of optical communication chains. Growing computing demand from the artificial intelligence sector has raised performance requirements for optical chips. The institute has achieved mass production of 800G high-speed optical communication chips, with annual supply exceeding ten million units. Parallel research and development work on 1.6T high-speed optical chips is underway.

The institute has achieved breakthroughs in material structure design, process development, lens fabrication and microwave transmission simulation. It develops passive chips for high-speed optical modules to match demand from AI computing hubs, data centres and 6G communications. High-output-power diamond optical switch devices have been successfully developed. An 8-inch silicon carbide production line is operational, and multiple power chips are deployed in new energy and ultra-fast energy storage charging scenarios.
CETC No.8 Research Institute in Hefei manufactures special fibre cables. The institute’s annual fibre cable production capacity reaches 2.5 million fibre core kilometres. It has secured a State Grid tender for power fibre cables and will supply self-developed optical fibre stainless steel tube composite overhead earth wire, or OPGW, for the Anhui power grid. The dual-function cables transmit communication signals and act as sensing carriers to monitor line temperature, vibration and strain. The institute will continue to expand its market for power fibre cables and sensing monitoring products.
Phoenix Optics’ intelligent manufacturing plant in Shangrao, Jiangxi, produces precision optical parts. Component machining accuracy reaches ±3 micrometres, while lens assembly coaxiality is controlled within 5 micrometres. A manufacturing execution system creates full-lifecycle digital records for each optical lens, documenting raw materials, processing steps, equipment parameters and finished product inspection data. The components are applied in intelligent driving and medical equipment. The manufacturer has launched the Insight3 fully automatic intelligent microscope, fitted with AI to carry out automated image capture, data analysis and report generation. Testing is underway at multiple research institutions.
