Street‑ball Tournament Concludes in Miyun, Boosting Integration of Sport, Culture, Tourism and Commerce

According to People’s Daily Online, the 2026 “Night Matches in Tanzhou” Miyun Street‑Basketball Challenge drew to a close on the evening of 27 September. Over two days of finals, 16 teams competed from afternoon until night. The ifree side claimed the championship, Miyun No 2 Middle School took second place, while the Beijing Sport University team finished third.

Hosted by the Miyun District Sports Bureau and Miyun District Sports Federation, the finals ran on 26 and 27 September. Sixteen sides contested single‑elimination knockout fixtures across the 16‑to‑eight and eight‑to‑four rounds, with roughly 60 matches played in total.

Adopting its signature half‑court four‑versus‑four format, the event highlighted street basketball’s modern appeal and participatory nature. Launched on 2 May, the tournament stretched across 16 weeks. Nearly 200 teams and more than 1 100 athletes took part, alongside large crowds of basketball followers. Guest overseas players and well‑known domestic basketball figures joined local amateurs on court, delivering high‑flying dunks, precise three‑point shots and sharp drives to energise the local street‑ball scene.

Tied to the local cultural‑tourism brand “Come to Miyun for Scenic Views”, the tournament used basketball as a platform to bring together ecological, cultural, tourism and commercial resources. Organisers partnered with five local scenic sites to offer free‑entry benefits for competitors and spectators. Attendees could experience competitive basketball while exploring Miyun’s natural landscapes and cultural attractions.

Miyun District has prioritised basketball development in recent years. It builds home‑grown tournament brands and improves its system of flagship sporting events. Mass‑participation basketball activities are promoted to underpin progress towards a district defined by basketball culture. Local scenic spots and commercial precincts have been brought into event planning to generate wider economic benefits.

The Chinese Men’s 3×3 Basketball League Miyun leg is scheduled to open during the National Day holiday period. Eighteen national teams with close to 100 athletes will gather in Miyun for the competition.
