China’s First Fully‑accessible Petrol Station Opens for Service in Fuzhou
According to China News Service, PetroChina Longjiang Service Station in Fuzhou has gone into official operation, marking the first petrol station across the country built with full accessibility considerations. The facility has secured a three‑star accessibility certification, the highest available grade under the national accessibility assessment framework, and it also stands as Fujian Province’s first commercial site to receive formal accessibility accreditation.
An open‑house experience event themed “Barrier‑free Journeys, Walk Hand‑in‑Hand with Care” runs concurrently on the day the site opens to the public. Disabled motorists drive onto the forecourt to test the whole service workflow, covering refuelling, designated parking, washroom access and convenience‑store shopping. Many drivers with physical disabilities have previously found it awkward to access restrooms while stopping for fuel on road trips. For some, simple roadside breaks used to bring considerable practical frustration. Now the integrated on‑site services deliver much‑needed convenience and comfort for these road users.
Official statistics indicate that more than 160,000 vehicles are registered to drivers living with disabilities across Fujian, of which 39,200 are small passenger cars. The growing number of disabled people holding driving licences highlights rising market demand for improved inclusive roadside infrastructure along regional transport corridors.

Developed as a key innovative project under the “Trade‑union Service Station Plus” initiative run by PetroChina Fujian Marketing, the Fuzhou Longjiang site incorporates a full suite of inclusive installations. Dedicated refuelling bays and parking spaces reserved for disabled visitors sit alongside accessible toilet blocks. A lowered customer service counter is fitted inside the retail outlet, together with real‑time sign‑language translation equipment. Wheelchairs, walking sticks and portable ramps are kept on‑site so visitors may borrow these mobility aids whenever required.
Targeted price discounts for disabled motorists on fuel purchases and convenience‑store goods are now in force across the firm’s network. These preferential terms already benefit over 2,000 registered disabled drivers throughout Fujian. Since the year 2022, PetroChina Fujian Marketing has rolled out its network of trade‑union service hubs and shared driver rest facilities. Sixty‑one such sites are now up and running in different parts of the province.
The successful launch of this flagship accessible petrol station sets a practical working example for the energy sector. Similar inclusive renovation schemes will move forward at further fuel outlets in the time ahead. The operator keeps refining hardware layouts and service protocols, aiming to expand barrier‑friendly roadside services for a wider community of travellers.
