China Energy Group Guangdong Hits 40.097 bn kWh Generation, Underpinning Greater Bay Area Power Security

According to media reports, China Energy Group Guangdong Company recorded a cumulative power output of 40.097 billion kilowatt-hours up to 31 August, representing a year-on-year rise of 23.71 per cent. 

The output reinforces regional energy security safeguards and provides robust power support for high-quality economic and social development across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Faced this year with tight regional power supply and demand, fierce market competition and frequent extreme weather events, the state-owned energy firm has co-ordinated infrastructure development, unit maintenance and marketing operations. 

It has refined its safety management framework, enforced full-staff safety responsibilities and rolled out comprehensive risk inspections and remediation. 

Unit 4 at Qingyuan Power Plant successfully completed its 168-hour trial run. During the summer peak demand period, regular emergency preparedness for typhoons, floods and heatwaves was maintained. Enhanced on-site duty and targeted inspection and defect elimination covered outdoor equipment, low-lying zones, coal handling systems, main transformers and turbine bearing assemblies. 

These measures helped the plant withstand successive bouts of extreme weather and sustained high temperatures, maintaining stable and safe unit operation.

The enterprise has implemented the operational framework dubbed “five increases, five reductions and one improvement”, benchmarking key performance indicators including electricity volume, tariff levels and coal consumption per kilowatt-hour to unlock maximum generation potential. 

Market-orientated operational adjustments are adopted, with nodal electricity prices forecast accurately. Dynamic bidding strategies and full-load generation during high-price windows are deployed to maximise profitable power output. 

Deepened co-ordination across production, commercial operations and power dispatch supports four planned unit overhauls and the enclosed coal yard upgrade at Taishan Power Plant, taking account of grid maintenance, load forecasts and extreme weather risks. Coal procurement, delivery and unloading schedules are optimised to secure sufficient and steady coal supplies for power generation.

The company will continue to refine operational indicators and strengthen integrated management of generation assets. It will keep optimising its generation scheduling, equipment maintenance and fuel supply arrangements to sustain reliable power delivery for the Greater Bay Area.
