Shuning Energy Storage Station enters commercial operation in Sichuan after passing grid trial assessment

Shuning Energy Storage Station, developed by Runchu Huineng under Shudao Clean Energy Group, has completed continuous trial operation assessment organised by the Power Dispatching Control Centre of State Grid and formally commenced commercial operations.

Located in Xuyong County, Luzhou, the facility forms one of Sichuan’s first batch of nineteen pilot demonstration projects for new energy storage. It stands as the first large-scale mountain-based energy storage station across southern Sichuan. 

Construction work on the site began in August 2025. Once fully operational, the station delivers multiple grid services including peak shaving, frequency regulation, emergency standby capacity and renewable energy integration.

It will participate actively in electricity auxiliary service markets and power trading mechanisms, maximising revenue through charging during low-demand periods and discharging at times of high consumption. The installation acts as a balancing and stabilising asset for the regional energy system, reinforcing local energy security and supporting regional economic activity.

The station can deliver a maximum power output of 100,000 kilowatts. Operating at full load for two hours, it supplies enough electricity to meet the daily power needs of roughly 50,000 households within Luzhou. 

Annual conversion of green power is projected to reach 60 million kilowatt-hours. This volume equates to savings of approximately 18,400 tonnes of standard coal, alongside a cut of 45,800 tonnes in carbon dioxide emissions each year.

Shudao Group will continue to expand its footprint across clean energy and new energy storage sectors. The business follows a tiered development strategy of commissioning projects, advancing ongoing construction and preparing schemes in reserve. Greater investment will flow into technological innovation and project development, while the layout of its energy storage division undergoes continuous optimisation. 

These moves support the formation of a modern industrial energy system within Sichuan and strengthen foundations for energy security amid green economic transition.
