Northeast China’s First Large-Scale Green Methanol Loaded at Dalian Port, Advancing Northeast Asia Green Fuel Hub Development
According to domestic shipping industry sources, the vessel Yunxiang 68 has completed green methanol loading operations at Dalian Port, operated by Liaoning Port Group under China Merchants Group. The loaded cargo marks the first batch of large-scale domestically produced green methanol in Northeast China, delivering a key milestone in the construction of a regional transit, storage and distribution hub for green methanol across Northeast Asia.
The loading operation took place at the Dalian Gangwan Liquid Storage Terminal. The terminal operator stands as the only facility in Dalian capable of providing full-range warehousing and docking services for bulk liquid chemical products, supporting standardised and efficient loading and storage procedures for new energy fuel commodities.

The green methanol supplied for the shipment is produced from a wind power-coupled biomass integrated demonstration project in Taonan City, Jilin Province, developed by Shanghai Electric. Leveraging abundant wind energy and agricultural and forestry biomass resources in Northeast China, the project converts waste biomass materials and locally consumed wind power into high-value green methanol, forming a complete clean energy production model based on regional natural endowments.
The entire batch of green methanol loaded on board Yunxiang 68 will be transported to Shanghai Port upon departure. The cargo will be deployed as marine fuel to supply vessels calling at the port, expanding the practical application of domestically manufactured green methanol in the domestic shipping sector.
Dalian Port continues to improve its green fuel service capacity and industrial layout. The completion of this large-scale green methanol loading task further improves the regional green marine fuel supply chain system, laying solid operational and infrastructure foundations for expanded cross-regional green energy transportation and marine low-carbon transformation in Northeast Asia.
