Guangdong Unveils Three-Year Plan to Become Global Exhibition Hub
Guangzhou, June 10 — The Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province has issued a three-year action plan (2026–2028) designed to drive high-quality development of the convention and exhibition industry and accelerate the building of an international exhibition powerhouse, according to China Economic Net.
The plan sets clear targets for 2028: total exhibition floor space in the province will exceed 29 million square metres, with the number of events stabilising above 800. It also pledges a marked rise in the sector’s global influence and international competitiveness.

The strategy focuses on developing world-class exhibition clusters, fostering professional and internationally competitive event operators, and creating a comprehensive industrial ecosystem with rational layout, complete functions and distinctive features. Priority will be given to nurturing high-impact branded exhibitions that enhance Guangdong’s standing in the global market.
As China’s long-standing gateway for trade and commerce, Guangdong already hosts iconic events such as the Canton Fair, which remains a key platform linking Chinese suppliers with global buyers. The new three-year framework aims to build on this foundation, strengthening the province’s role in global resource allocation and industrial cooperation.
Over the next two years, authorities will streamline approval procedures, improve venue infrastructure, and boost support for industry innovation and international promotion. These measures are expected to attract more high-value international exhibitions, reinforce Guangdong’s position as a leading global exhibition destination, and generate fresh momentum for regional economic growth and opening-up.
