China-EU Dual Carbon Practice Docking Conference Held in Beijing to Boost Green Cooperation

Guangming Net reports that the China-EU Dual Carbon Practice Docking Conference, concurrently serving as the Q2 Exchange Meeting of the Beijing Mayor's International Business Advisory Council, kicked off at Phase II of the China National Convention Center on the morning of May 8, 2026. The event aims to strengthen policy and standard alignment between China and the EU in the dual carbon field, promote enterprise compliance, and explore paths for zero-carbon park construction.

Co-hosted by the Beijing Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission, and the China-France Business Council, the conference took "China-EU Dual Carbon Synergy · Green Innovation and Win-Win — China-EU Policy and Standard Docking" as its theme. It gathered representatives from government departments, chambers of commerce, think tanks, and Chinese and foreign enterprises to engage in in-depth discussions on key issues related to dual carbon cooperation.

At the conference, the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission introduced the construction of Beijing as an international green economy benchmark city and the "Beijing Plan" for zero-carbon parks. The commission elaborated on the city’s efforts to promote the growth of key green economy industries and quantify development goals, striving to explore a model that integrates standard leadership, advanced technology and financial support in zero-carbon park construction.

Xinhua News Agency notes that the EU recently revised its Climate Law, establishing a binding target of reducing greenhouse gas net emissions by 90% by 2040 compared with 1990 levels. Relevant representatives from the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China interpreted EU climate policies and green trade rules at the conference, focusing on the impact of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) on enterprise operations.

A number of Chinese and foreign enterprises, including Deloitte, Goldwind Technology, Xiaomi, BMW and ABB, shared their practical experience in energy efficiency, green supply chains, circular economy and low-carbon finance. They jointly explored enterprise compliance paths under the CBAM framework, with enterprises putting forward suggestions such as strengthening green electricity traceability, integrating green compliance into supply chain management, and establishing a unified carbon data verification mechanism.

People’s Daily reports that the conference has built an important platform for China-EU dual carbon resource docking, collecting needs in technological cooperation and standard mutual recognition. The organizers stated that they will continue to promote green cooperation between China and the EU, focusing on facilitating the construction of Beijing’s zero-carbon parks and its development into an international green economy benchmark city.

Currently, China and the EU share consistent goals in addressing climate change, though differences exist in policy tools and implementation rhythms. The conference has further enhanced mutual understanding and cooperation intentions between both sides. In the future, more in-depth exchanges and cooperation in green technology, standard formulation and financial services will be promoted, contributing to global carbon reduction efforts and sustainable development.
