Hubei Promotes Technological Innovation to Boost New Quality Productivity

Hubei Provincial State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission has recently released ten key technological research tasks for provincial-owned enterprises in 2026, alongside 44 technological research needs in key fields. The commission is calling for joint research institutions from across society to collaborate in addressing core technological bottlenecks, accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and bridge the "last mile" from laboratory to production line, leveraging new quality productivity to fuel high-quality development in Hubei.

State-owned enterprises in Hubei are showcasing cutting-edge technologies that have attracted investment from relevant institutions. With the rapid development of new energy vehicles, there is a growing demand for lighter and safer vehicles. Hubei Sanhuan Forging Co., Ltd., affiliated to Changjiang Industry Group, has developed a key technology titled "R&D and Application of High-Quality and Efficient Forging Technology for Aluminum Alloy Components of New Energy Vehicles".

The technology focuses on the development of an aluminum alloy component using as-cast 7075 aluminum alloy, a material originally widely used in aerospace for its light weight and high strength. Compared with traditional components, this new aluminum alloy component increases strength by 40%, and improves elongation and production efficiency by 20% each. At present, the company has signed technical agreements with automobile manufacturers including BYD, Great Wall Motors and Leapmotor.

Xinhua News Agency reports that Hubei is accelerating the in-depth integration of technological innovation and industrial innovation, developing new quality productivity in light of local conditions, and continuously strengthening the dominant position of enterprises in technological innovation. The province is also promoting sustained growth in R&D investment by provincial-owned enterprises and accelerating the layout of innovation platforms.

China Daily states that Hubei has been deepening the reform of the collaborative innovation mechanism between industry, universities and research institutes, and building a comprehensive financial support system to guide investment institutions to focus on hard technology. These measures have laid a solid foundation for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and the development of new quality productivity.

Moving forward, Hubei Provincial State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission will continue to perform its service functions, improve the policy support, assessment and incentive, and factor guarantee systems. It will provide greater support in terms of assessment bonus points and incentive distribution for projects and enterprises that have made outstanding achievements in tackling key problems and transforming scientific and technological achievements. The commission will also foster a sound ecosystem that encourages innovation and tolerates failure, fully supporting provincial-owned enterprises and various innovation entities to work together in overcoming challenges and scaling new heights in technological innovation.
