National-Level V2G Demonstration Station Put into Operation in Hefei, Anhui

On the 28th, a national-level large-scale vehicle-to-grid (V2G) application demonstration station was officially completed and put into operation in Hefei, Anhui Province. As China’s first demonstration station integrating three core functions—operation services, technology verification and industrial incubation—it marks a significant step forward in the large-scale application of V2G technology and the high-quality development of the new energy vehicle industry.

Built by State Grid Anhui Electric Power, the demonstration station features a full-coverage charging and battery swapping service system. It is equipped with two professional battery swapping stations from NIO and CATL, with the average battery swapping time controlled within 3 minutes and the daily battery swapping capacity expected to exceed 1,000 times. China Economic Net reports that the station has 72 new energy vehicle charging piles, among which 53 are capable of bidirectional charging and discharging between vehicles and the power grid.

Meanwhile, the world’s first BYD Megawatt Flash Charging Station built at the site has a single-pile charging power of over 1,000 kilowatts. With BYD’s liquid-cooled dual-gun design, it can provide a driving range of 200 kilometers for vehicles in just 5 minutes of charging, embodying the high efficiency of ultra-fast charging technology. The demonstration station also innovatively launched non-detachable battery testing services—without disassembling the battery, a comprehensive inspection of battery damage, seal failures and other issues can be completed through a single regular charge, generating a professional battery health report.

Zhao Feng, Director of the Energy Technology Service Center of State Grid Hefei Power Supply Company, introduced that in terms of operation mode, the demonstration station generates 220,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually through photovoltaic canopies and small wind power generation equipment. This green electricity is used for the operation of on-site facilities, and surplus electricity can be stored in energy storage equipment to supply power during peak grid demand, realizing local consumption of clean energy and “peak shaving and valley filling” for the power grid.

Currently, the number of new energy vehicles in Hefei has exceeded 570,000, with the total capacity of supporting power batteries surpassing 2,500 megawatt-hours. The large-scale connection of vehicles to the power grid has put forward higher requirements for grid operation safety, equipment communication stability and charging measurement accuracy. As a technology verification center, the demonstration station is equipped with 6 sets of professional testing equipment to lay a solid technical foundation for the safe and stable implementation of V2G technology.

It deeply integrates quantum technology with V2G, adopting “5G + quantum encryption” communication technology to enable “second-level” precise response of participating vehicles and ensure the safety and controllability of the entire charging and discharging process. China Economic Net notes that the station has also pilot-installed quantum precision measurement equipment, successfully solving the problem of inaccurate measurement in high-power charging and providing accurate and reliable technical support for the market-oriented settlement of V2G.

The most innovative value of the demonstration station lies in building an incubation platform for the V2G industry, helping upgrade the entire industrial chain of Hefei’s new energy industry. It opens professional test scenarios free of charge to new energy vehicle enterprises and charging facility companies nationwide, providing a trial-and-error and verification platform for new product adaptation, technology R&D and protocol iteration, effectively reducing enterprise R&D costs and shortening the product launch cycle.
