China’s MOFCOM to Boost "Export to China" Brand with Over 100 Events, Promote E-commerce Quality Upgrade

According to reports from China News Service on April 9, He Yadong, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), stated at a regular press conference that the "Export to China" brand has driven exports from relevant countries to China, turning China’s large market into a shared global market. He added that MOFCOM will focus on ten themes of "Export to China" to organize more than 100 series of activities in the next step, focusing on coordinated linkage and welcoming all countries to seize the new opportunities brought by the brand.

In recent years, based on China’s advantage of a super-large-scale market, MOFCOM has launched three national-level brand activities, namely "Shop in China", "Export to China" and "Invest in China". He Yadong introduced that "Export to China" is a newly created national brand from the perspective of trading partners and the balance of imports and exports.

"The ‘Export to China’ brand has not only driven exports from relevant countries to China, making China’s large market a shared global market, but also enriched domestic consumer supply, bringing high-quality imported products into thousands of households," He explained. He further noted that MOFCOM will focus on synergistic linkage in the next phase, with specific measures including strengthening domestic and foreign linkage—organizing Chinese enterprises to "go global" and inviting enterprises from various countries to "come in" to build a docking channel for Chinese buyers and global sellers.

In addition, MOFCOM will enhance the linkage between "Export to China" and "Shop in China" to ensure that high-quality imported products and services can not only "enter China smoothly" but also "sell well". It will also strengthen online and offline linkage to achieve "rich offline activities and a wide range of high-quality online products". Meanwhile, MOFCOM will explore conducting special research on the capacity of "Export to China" together with international organizations and release an annual report.

Speaking of e-commerce development, He Yadong pointed out that e-commerce is an important component of the digital economy with rapid development, active innovation and rich applications, adding that China has remained the world’s largest online retail market for 13 consecutive years. "Serving the real economy better is the original mission and inherent meaning of the high-quality development of e-commerce," he said.

Recently, MOFCOM, together with multiple departments, issued the Guiding Opinions on Better Serving the Real Economy and Promoting the High-Quality Development of E-Commerce (hereinafter referred to as the Opinions). He Yadong stated that the Opinions aim to stimulate the endogenous motivation, innovative potential and opening vitality of e-commerce development to better serve the real economy.

The Opinions propose to strengthen innovation leadership, develop "Artificial Intelligence + E-commerce", deepen the application of digital technologies; cultivate high-quality e-commerce and promote online-offline integration; develop rural e-commerce and industrial e-commerce to promote efficient coordination of the industrial and supply chains. These measures will drive e-commerce to shift from "scale expansion" to "quality improvement", providing new momentum for the development of the real economy.

He Yadong also emphasized the need to expand opening-up and cooperation. He said that China will align with high-standard international economic and trade rules, explore expanding the scope of the "Silk Road E-Commerce" Pilot Cooperation Zones, and further intensify pilot initiatives. It will deepen international e-commerce cooperation, expand the "Silk Road E-Commerce" circle of friends, and continue to carry out the "Silk Road E-Commerce Benefits the World" theme activities to create "one popular product per country", helping China’s large market become a global opportunity.

To create a win-win ecology, He noted that MOFCOM will adhere to balancing promotion and regulation, including promotional measures such as selecting typical cases, strengthening quality leadership and improving public services, as well as regulatory requirements such as strengthening regular supervision, promoting industry self-discipline and guiding compliant overseas expansion, striving to build a sound ecology of mutually beneficial domestic and international cooperation.
