Major Offshore Wind Power Workboats Start Operation in South China

The Wudongde and Baihetan offshore wind power workboats were put into operation in the Yangjiang waters in South China's Guangdong Province on Feb 2 and 5, 2023.

Invested and developed by China Three Gorges Corporation, the two workboats are expected to contribute to development of China's offshore wind power industry.

The Wudongde workboat adopts a steel pipe pile foundation for the wind turbine jacket, suitable for the waters about 50 kilometers from the coast which are about 35 to 38 meters deep.

As China's first deepsea offshore wind power workboat that integrates transportation and lifting functions, Wudongde is the most powerful type of construction vessel in terms of deck loading capacity and deck area of its kind in China. The capacity and area are 10,000 metric tons and 6,200 square meters respectively.

It is capable of completing the main tasks of loading, transportation, lifting and pile construction at port and at sea.

The offshore distance of the work area where the Baihetan will be active is about 31 kilometers, and the water depth will be 25 to 28 meters.

The Baihetan workboat is the world's first new-generation 2,000-ton offshore wind power installation platform.

It is 126 meters long, 50 meters wide and 10 meters deep and has a lifting capacity of 2,000 tons, a maximum operating water depth of 70 meters, and a maximum variable load of 6,500 tons, all of which are tops in China.
